Due for completion in July 2010, and encompassing a new iconic three-storey build, with access to the unique sub basement vaults, the new £4.8 million facilities will provide around 1900 square metres of additional state-of-the-art sports conditioning and physical activity space. Such superb facilities require state of the art systems the University of Edinburgh has selected Xn Leisure Systems as their partner of choice.
The facilities have stunning views to Holyrood Park and improved access routes around the Pleasance, including extensions to the existing FW1, Olympic gym and FASIC sports injuries clinic, all are key features of the new build.
The four level extension is laid out as follows:
First floor - Open plan studio for CSE’s dance, exercise classes and workshop programmes.
Ground level - Body conditioning gym with 30 cardiovascular machines by Precor, including 20 of their hugely popular ‘AMT’ units, and 16 matted ‘CSE my-pod’ stations with light studio weights, fit balls and medicine balls.
Basement level –Performance gym with eight ‘power-lift’ platforms furnished with ‘eiliko’ discs and bars, plyometric exercise lane, rebound wall, bench area and staff base.
Sub-basement level - 40 station bench weights area (dumbbells and bars), with five power lifting platforms. A variety of benches by ‘power-lift’ will be available, with ‘ivanko’ dumb-bells from 2-70 kilograms.
In line with the building project the system implementation was broken down into 3 stages:
Stage 1 – Installation of Access Control and Cascade Reporting tool - this has now been completed.
Stage 2 – Dimension (Management System) and Horizons (On line bookings) implementation – currently in progress.
Stage 3 – Final stage in Jan 2011 when Online Joining will be rolled out.
