Xn Leisure Leading the way with Chip and Pin

Thursday 14 May 2009

Xn Leisure uses a high performance, pre-approved Chip & PIN solution for counter top Leisure environments. Ocius is created by Commidea, the UK's leading developer of credit and debit card payment processing solutions; it offers a unique method of integrating Chip & PIN functionality whilst combining ease of use with reliability.

The solution uses a new generation of VeriFone Pin Pad solutions. Incorporating a 32-bit processor, as well as an option for Ethernet, wireless and dial communications, it provides extraordinary performance for payment and value-added applications - including data-intensive, EMV smart card transactions.

Ocius is a unique, pre-approved Chip & PIN solution that has achieved generic approvals from major UK banks. This has enabled simple 'plug and play' integration that sidesteps the approvals queue and associated bank testing costs. Developed to EMV I & II specifications, Ocius can be operated by two of Commidea's card payment processing solutions - ICP or WinTi - to suit most applications.

There are four key elements to the Ocius system.

  1. Hardware - The terminal offers extraordinary performance for payment and security. It includes all the essential requirements of a payment terminal including a chip card reader and PIN pad.
  2. Software - At the heart of the Ocius system lays a highly advanced card payment processing system developed by Commidea. It uses Commidea's central servers for online connectivity to all of the UK acquiring banks for authorisation and settlement of transactions direct to a retailer's bank account.
  3. Central Processing - The central processing service provides a real time card authorisation and settlement service for any retailer using a UK acquiring bank. The fully hosted and managed service is backed by technical support seven days a week and utilises X.25, the fastest card authorisation communications network eliminating the need to install and operate your own card payment processing systems and the associated IT implications.
  4. Telecommunications - In addition to a dial connectivity option, the Ocius solution also offers an option combining both Ethernet and dial communications allowing the built-in dial capability to be used today then switched to Ethernet at any time. Or merchants with broadband service already installed can immediately process payments through this lightning-fast, always-on connection. It's simple, reliable and future-proof.

Software Functionality

From the Ocius terminal a number of routines can be performed including:

  • Report production
  • Voucher reprint
  • Reordering of consumables
  • Change of PIN numbers
  • Change of user ID's

For organisations using multiple terminals, Ocius can also provide detailed centralised reporting and management information using a sophisticated web based tool called Web Com.
